My daughter and grandchildren came for lunch Wednesday. A plate of fresh cut vegetable with a humus dip to start off. Then we had hot dogs with a coleslaw and smokies with sauerkraut. Victor had his main staple: a slice of white bread with peanut butter.
Desert is not usually on the menu for lunch when the kids are home so I had to tell them I could not give them desert, but I did have broccoli for them – chocolate covered broccoli. I took out the Ah Caramel box and gave each of them a portion. The broccoli, I told them, was inside. Anything containing broccoli is certainly not desert.
Lo and behold, when we bit into the chocolate covered squares, we found that someone had mischievously removed all the broccoli and replaced it with caramel instead! Obviously, we had to finish eating them – waste not want not. So, in spite of my best intentions, my grandchildren had desert with their lunch. I will have to have a serious talk with my grocer about the missing broccoli.
