Lured by Laser Beams

When my son in law Kent wants to exercise Chocoli, the family labradoodle, he brings her outside in the back yard and shines a laser beam on the ground. Chocoli gets all excited and runs around at full speed attempting to catch it. One would expect that she would eventually figure out the subterfuge she is being subjected to, but there is no sign of that happening soon!

God meets me where I am. That sounds easy enough. However, what makes things complicated is that I am often not where the “real me” is. I am off somewhere chasing laser beams. The psalmist invites me to “Be still and know that I am God.” It is in that “stillness” that I can find not only God, but my true self. When I take time to still my heart and mind, I no longer chase laser beams and I allow the only real light to reach me.
