Standing on Holy Ground

I remember once overhearing one of my grade 7 student playfully saying as she was standing in line waiting for her turn to have her school picture taken and being pressed from behind, "Move back. You are standing on holy ground." She laughed as she said it and did not realize the wisdom contained in her words.
I have read many times the words that Moses heard as he stood before the burning bush. I have also often heard the David Hass song that no doubt inspired my young student’s comment. But it is the voice of that twelve-year-old child that still reverberates in me when I recall the words, “You are standing on holy ground”. Through her, these words had (and still have) a prophetic impact on me. They have opened me up very slowly, and gently over many years to the sacred that is all around me and deep within me.
